William Hills Scholarship

The William Hills Bursary offering three students 拢5,000 each year for the duration of their 3-year BEng Mechanical Engineering degree including extended programmes

William Hills was a former student of the University of 久久精品 who studied Mechanical Engineering at what was then Woolwich Polytechnic in 1948. This bursary is supported by the legacy of William Hills, who was dedicated to supporting the education of a new generation of engineers.

The William Hills Bursary offers three students a 拢5,000 bursary for each year of their 3-year Mechanical Engineering degree, including a graduation award of 拢2,000-拢5,000.

Eligibility Criteria


You will need to meet the following criteria to be eligible to receive the William Hills Bursary.

*You are studying level 3 qualifications (A level, BTEC Level 3, T Levels, Access, IB or any other Level 3 qualifications) which hold UCAS points and will receive your final results in the Summer 2025.
*You applied to the university by the UCAS ‘equal consideration’ deadline – 29 January 2025.
*You received an offer to study full-time on the BEng Mechanical Engineering (including extended programmes) course at our Medway Campus in Kent, which commences in September 2025.
*You will be a new full-time undergraduate in 2025, paying the maximum home tuition fee of 拢9,535
*You have firmly accepted your offer of study at the university by your UCAS reply date in June/July 2025 – your deadline will depend on when you received all of your offers. You don’t need to have made your decision before you apply for this scholarship.

Conditions

*The bursary will be awarded in three instalments across the academic year. The first instalment will be awarded in Autumn term following confirmation of study in August and successful registration.
*The bursary will be automatically awarded to recipients for all years of their BEng Mechanical Engineering degree following successful completion of year 1 and year 2.
*There is a conditional graduation award offered after successful completion of year 3.
*The bursary will be automatically rescinded if the student fails to successfully complete any academic year.
*Students on the extended programme are eligible to apply. However, the total award amount will be the same as students on a three-year programme and the payment schedule will be adjusted accordingly.

Where we receive a large number of applications, priority will be given to those from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education e.g., POLAR 4 Q1 (areas of low participation) and IMD Q1 (a measure of multiple deprivation), both of which are identified by postcode.

Further prioritisation may be considered if you have attended one of our target schools/colleges and/or you have participated in one of our outreach workshops in addition to a campus visit (open day or applicant day). Activities do not need to have been completed before the UCAS ‘equal consideration’ deadline to be eligible.
