General Pharmacy Practice, PGCert/PGDip/MSc
Designed with NHS partners, this Master鈥檚 in General Pharmacy Practice supports the development of foundation-stage pharmacists following your registration.
The General Pharmacy Practice course provides the core skills and competencies to provide holistic pharmaceutical care in the practice setting. You'll develop key knowledge and skills in clinical pharmacy practice and medicine management plus the understanding needed to conduct effective consultations and to identify, prioritise and resolve complex pharmaceutical issues.
For those starting at Certificate stage, the work-based learning begins in January and university entry is in March of each year. Anyone who has already obtained the Certificate can begin the Diploma in either March or October.

- Entry to the PGCert / PGDip requires workplace support in an approved hospital trust.
- The MSc is available to those with the diploma. We'll guide you through the application process.

Postgraduate Certificate: You must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and work within an accredited training centre.
Postgraduate Diploma: Completion of the PG Certificate General Pharmacy Practice.
Master's: Completion of the PG Diploma General Pharmacy Practice.

Can I use Prior Learning?
You can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning for study completed at a university which is part of the Joint Programmes Board (who all deliver an agreed curriculum for Foundation Stage qualifications) or at a different university.
You will need to produce a portfolio of evidence to show how you have attained the learning outcomes.
How you will learn
Learning experience
Certificate/Diploma: These are work-based courses to develop your competencies using the Foundation Pharmacy Framework. Your educational supervisor will help you plan your workplace learning and a facilitator offers academic support. Your learning is self-directed with some in-person study days.
Master's: Gain expertise in research techniques with a research project. With support, you'll write a protocol and complete either an NHS or university ethics application and collect and analyse data.
Class sizes
There is a maximum of 18 students in each learning set.
Independent learning
This course is student-centred workplace learning, supported by workbooks and learning sets from experienced pharmacy practitioners.
Practitioner students are expected to take responsibility for managing your own learning and achieving the course objectives in support of your continuing professional development (CPD).
Overall workload
If you are studying full-time, you should expect the workload to be similar to a full-time job. For part-time students, this will reduce in proportion with the number of courses you are studying.
Assessment
Certificate: OSCE, written examination (multiple-choice and short case-based questions), critical review and viva.
Diploma: written assignments and presentations (a therapeutic review and a change management project), case study presentations and competency-based portfolio review.
Master's: completion of a poster presentation and an accompanying abstract, personal reflections on aspects of the research process, and the submission of a thesis.
Feedback summary
University policy is to give feedback on assignments within 15 working days of the coursework submission date.
Examination results will be available within 28 days.

What sort of careers do graduates pursue?
Certificate and Diploma: These programmes provide progression for pharmacists towards advanced practitioner status. Completion of the practice elements of the full Diploma programme leads to the award of the NHS Statement of Completion of General Pharmacist Training.
Master's: This degree gives you a strong foundation for a career in pharmacy in any sector, allowing you to experience different aspects of pharmaceutical care and strengthening the key skills you will need to flourish in your chosen speciality.
Do you provide employability services?
This is a work-based programme. You must must already be working in an accredited workplace with an accredited educational supervisor.
Support and advice
Academic skills and study support
Certificate/Diploma: As a student practitioner, you have an educational supervisor to help you plan your learning in the workplace and an academic facilitator who offers support throughout the course.
Master's: You will be supported all the way by an academic supervisor who will guide you through the process of structuring and conducting your research, writing it up and submitting it for examination.
Support from the department
Once the postgraduate team at the Medway School of Pharmacy have approved your application (via the workplace), they will guide you through the process of becoming a fully registered student at the University of 久久精品.
This support is tailored to distance learners and includes enabling access to the Virtual Learning Environment that the school uses for delivery of learning materials.
