The MA Education extends and deepens your understanding of current theories, policies, and issues in the field through intensive study and research. You can tailor the course to your interests by selecting your topics, and work towards one of our specialist endorsements: Leadership; Teaching and Learning; Early Years; Inclusive Practice; or International Education.
Through our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process, you can transfer up to 90 Master's level credits gained from previous postgraduate study in associated disciplines, including PGCEs. The MA also provides a clear route to a Doctorate in Education.

Welcome to our MA in Education. Your teaching comes from an experienced expert team of lecturers. These include academics and practitioners with a wide range of experience. Over 90 per cent of our teaching team holds a teaching qualification.

Entry requirements
An undergraduate (honours) degree at 2:2, or above, in Education Studies, Childhood/Youth/Community Studies, Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology, or a relevant subject.
Applicants with an undergraduate (honours) degree at 2:2 in any subject that has 3 or more years experience in education as a teacher, tutor, or manager, and/or a recognised teaching qualification at Level 5 or above may be considered.

Can I use Prior Learning?
PG Cert – National Award: Due to the professional nature of the programme, applicants are not able to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
PG Cert: Mature students who can demonstrate enthusiasm for and commitment to study, and who can outline how they have pursued pertinent interests though relevant life/work experience, can apply. We will assess their suitability from the information provided in their application and supporting statement.
How you will learn
Teaching
Teaching and learning on the course takes place through interactive seminars, where you will be engaged in the process of learning through class and group discussions.
Contact hours for the full-time mode are 1pm-8pm for two days a week. For the part-time mode they are 5pm-8pm, one day a week.

Independent learning
Outside of timetabled sessions, you will need to dedicate time to extend your learning through self-study by researching and reading around the topics covered. Our library and online resources will support your further reading and research. You can also join a range of student societies, including law and debating.
Overall workload
Your overall workload consists of timetabled sessions and independent learning. Full-time students are expected to spend at least four days a week studying. For part-time students, this reduces in proportion with the number of modules you are studying.
Assessment
On this course, students are assessed by written academic papers, portfolios, essays, online tasks, and a final dissertation.

University accommodation is available from 拢126.35 per person per week (bills included), depending on your location and preferences. Our services are designed to help you achieve your potential and support your transition towards a rewarding graduate career.
The Employability and Careers Service provides support when you are preparing to apply for placements and graduate roles. It includes CV clinics, mock interviews and employability skills workshops.
Each School also has its own Employability Officer, who works closely with the industry and will provide specific opportunities relevant to your own course.

Academic skills and study support
We want you to make the most of your time with us. You can access study skills support through your tutor, our subject librarians, and our online academic skills centre.
Where appropriate, we provide support in academic English and mathematics. If you need to use particular IT packages for a specific module, we provide training for this.
Support from the department
We have established a students' society for childhood, youth and education which organises an annual conference to which you are welcome to contribute. You will also be invited o regular postgraduate seminars that take place at lunchtime and on various Saturdays throughout the year.
